AI Policy

EKSIGMA recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools may support certain stages of research and academic writing. However, their use must be transparent, responsible, ethical, and subject to human supervision.

Artificial intelligence tools do not replace the intellectual responsibility, critical judgment, originality, or ethical accountability of authors, reviewers, or editors.

Authorship and Responsibility

AI tools, including generative language models, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to EKSIGMA. Authorship is reserved exclusively for individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the work and who can take responsibility for its content.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, citation, ethical integrity, and authorship of all content submitted to the journal, including any content produced or assisted by AI tools.

Permitted Uses of AI

The use of AI tools may be permitted as a support resource for activities such as:

  • Grammar, spelling, language editing, and translation.
  • Improving readability, clarity, or organization of a manuscript.
  • Assisting with programming, coding, data processing, or data analysis, when appropriate to the research design.
  • Supporting literature organization, provided that all references are verified by the authors.
  • Generating preliminary ideas, outlines, or structural suggestions.

All AI-assisted content must be critically reviewed, verified, revised, and validated by the authors before submission.

Prohibited Uses of AI

Authors must not use AI tools to:

  • Fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or invent research data, results, images, references, citations, or sources.
  • Generate a manuscript or substantial portions of a manuscript without meaningful human intellectual contribution and supervision.
  • Replace the authors’ critical analysis, interpretation of results, or scientific judgment.
  • Generate false statements, non-existent references, or misleading content.
  • Conceal the use of AI when it has materially contributed to the preparation, analysis, writing, translation, or presentation of the manuscript.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of AI tools whenever such use has materially contributed to the manuscript.

The disclosure must include the name of the tool, its version when available, the purpose of its use, and the sections of the manuscript affected. This information should be included in the Methods section, Acknowledgments section, or another appropriate section of the manuscript.

A suggested disclosure statement is:

“During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool] for [specific purpose]. The authors reviewed, verified, and edited the output and take full responsibility for the final content of this publication.”

Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers must preserve the confidentiality of manuscripts under evaluation. They must not upload, share, or enter unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, author identities, research data, or confidential editorial information into publicly available AI tools.

AI tools must not replace the reviewer’s independent expert assessment, academic judgment, or responsibility for the peer review report.

Use of AI by Editors

Editors may use AI-supported tools only for administrative or technical tasks that do not compromise the confidentiality, integrity, impartiality, or independence of the editorial process.

Editors must not use AI tools as a substitute for editorial decisions, peer review management, or the assessment of scientific quality. Final editorial decisions remain the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team.

Verification and Editorial Action

EKSIGMA may request additional information from authors regarding the use of AI tools. Failure to disclose material AI use, or the use of AI to fabricate, falsify, or misrepresent research, may result in rejection of the manuscript or, when detected after publication, the issuance of a correction, expression of concern, or retraction.

This policy may be updated as artificial intelligence technologies, scholarly publishing standards, and ethical guidance continue to evolve.
